A day after Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia issued a joint statement announcing that they were ending their 20-year-old marriage, more facts have emerged on what could have led to their divorce.
One reason being stated is Mehr’s insecurity over Arjun’s closeness to Sussanne Khan, ex-wife of Hrithik Roshan. She was reportedly very insecure that Arjun kept meeting Sussanne secretly. A report by Mumbai Mirror quoted a source as saying, “When his equations with many industry friends were worsening, his friendship with Sussanne only strengthened over time and Mehr grew extremely insecure. It led to several fights between the couple,” revealed a close friend, recalling how last year, at a bash hosted by Sussanne’s cousin Fardeen Khan, the former BFFs had a very public spat. “Mehr and Sussanne yelled at one another before Mehr stormed out of the party. The two have not spoken to each other since.”
The paper recalled that three years ago, Mehr, who had been working on saving her marriage, was reportedly so heartbroken that she moved in with her mother in the Dadar’s Parsi colony but returned home shortly afterwards following a reconciliation.
In 2017, Mehr, who routinely visits Mount Mary church in Bandra, had to be escorted home by a family friend after a breakdown in the church, added the report.
“Mehr had learnt that Arjun and Sussanne were still meeting secretly and were close friends. She was traumatised as she had believed Arjun when he said he was a changed man and that everything would be fine,” the paper quoted a source as saying.
The couple, in a joint statement, had said on Monday, “After a 20-year-long beautiful journey filled with love and beautiful memories, we would like to share, that all journeys have different paths. We feel that it is time for us to move on to different destinations henceforth. We have always been solid when it has come to us, we will continue to be solid for each other and our loved ones, as we embark upon a new journey.”
There were rumours that Arjun’s closeness with Sussanne Khan, ex-wife of actor Hrithik Roshan, may have caused strain in their relationship. 45-year-old Arjun and 47-year-old Mehr, both former models, had got married in 1998 and have two children, 16-year-old Mahikaa and 13-year-old Myra.
Meanwhile Sussanne Khan termed rumours ‘malicious’ blaming her for their split. “Arjun and Mehr are friends and have been for years. To poison a relationship such as this is malicious behavior. I have, with Mehr, earlier stated in the same paper that there is no truth to the claim that Arjun and I are anything more than friends,” Firstpost quoted Sussanne as saying in a statement.
“I never was and am not an idle Bollywood wife who has all the time in the world to spread canards and lies that damage relationships and lives,” Sussanne added,
