According to reports, a five-storey under-construction building collapsed on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring some others. The National Disaster Response Force has been pressed into action for search and rescue mission. One NDRF official told PTI, “So far, we have pulled out one dead body and rescued one person trapped in the debris.

Ajournalist working for TV9 channel tweeted claiming several people, mostly labourers, may have died in the building collapse.

An Uttar Pradesh government spokesperson was quoted in Lucknow, “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police of Ghaziabad to visit the site of building collapse and take immediate action for rescue, along with NDRF personnel.”

The incident comes just a few days after a six-storey building had collapsed on to its adjacent building killing at least nine people. At least 400 personnel from the NDRF had joined the search and rescue operation, which was declared over on Saturday.

The cops had arrested three people, the owner of the land, Gangashankar Dwivedi, and two others — Dinesh and Sanjay. The state government had announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the victims.

An FIR under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) were lodged at the Bisrakh police station against 18 persons in connection with the incident last week in Greater Noida.
