The new success in the world of track and field for India has come just days after Hima Das stunned everyone by clinching a rare Gold medal at Finland when she won the women’s 400m event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
On Saturday, India’s Poovamma too won the gold medal in women 400m by clocking 53.01 seconds even though there were just five women in the race. However, this has not stopped sports lovers to drive home a point about the recent successes enjoyed by Indian athletes at international events.
Journalist Tridib Baparnash wrote, “Indian athletes continue to fly high as star sprinter Mohd. Anas breaks his own 400m national record with a timing of 45.24 seconds in #Czech.” Another user wrote, “I think…… India is developing in sports very fastly ..it will continue.”
When he reached the finals in this year’s Commonwealth Games, Anas had become only the second Indian athlete to achieve this feat after Milkha Singh, who won gold in the 440 yards race at Cardiff in 1958.
