The Centre’s Narendra Modi government on Friday survived the no confidence vote by 126 to 325 votes.

confidence vote

The voting took place immediate after Modi finished his speech, which lasted for more than 90 minutes. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced the results declaring that the motion was ‘negative.’

Mahajan also adjourned the House till Monday morning.

Replying to PM Modi’s speech, TDP MP Kesineni Srinivas said, “I thought for one and a half hours I was watching a Bollywood blockbuster film. I have no doubt PM would have been the best actor in the world.”

Earlier in the day, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had torn into Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his party, the BJP and his confidante, Amit Shah. He caused a spectacular embarrassment for Modi as he walked up to Modi’s seat and stunned him with a surprise hug.

Mahajan’s glaring biases had earned her plenty of condemnation from commentators, intellectuals and journalists on social media as some wondered if she was the worst Lok Sabha Speaker India has ever had.

Midway through Rahul’s speech, Mahajan had adjourned the House. Many felt that it was  an inappropriate decision given that he was in the midst of launching a fierce attack against the BJP while embarrassing the prime minister and his party on the Rafale scam and surprise jump in the wealth of BJP President Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah.

Janta Ka Reporter  had exclusive exposed the Rafale scam in its three part series. You can read them here (Part 1 and Part 2 and Part 3).
