Bihar’s deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday wished freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 111th birth anniversary. But there was a small problem. His tweet paying tribute to one of India’s most well-known freedom-fighters became the reason for his embarrassment.
Taking to the microblogging site, Modi wrote in Hindi with hashtag #BhagatSingh, “We bow to India’s great martyr Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary.”

Moments later, Bihar’s former deputy CM and RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, slammed Modi for forgetting the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh. His scathing tweet read, “Our honourable deputy chief minister is so frightened of AK-47 carrying criminals in Bihar that he forgot the birth anniversary of martyred revolutionary Bhagat Singh. Why are these products of RSS schools so determined to destroy the history of our great freedom fighters. Why do they have problems with Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Nehru?”

Bhagat Singh was born on 28 September 1907 in Banga, now in Pakistan. He was killed through execution by British occupying forces on 23 March 1931 in Lahore.
Tejashwi’s AK-47 reference was to the gruesome murder of a former mayor in Muzaffarpur last week. Responding to the the murder of Sameer Kumar, Modi had appealed to the criminal with ‘folded hands’ to stop the crime in the state.
Kumar was killed with his driver on Sunday evening after his assassins fired more than 50 rounds of bullets using AK-47 rifles.
