Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday reacted angrily to a news report claiming that the cops in the national capital had recently met to discuss how to send AAP MLAs to jail.

Terming the reported meeting shameful, Kejriwal tweeted, “Shameful that cops are meeting to discuss how to send AAP MLAs to jail. I wish they had spent a fraction of time n energy on providing security to women and improving law n order, which is worst today during Modi regime.”

In a separate tweet, the Delhi chief minister wrote, “Fix responsibility. Who directed these false cases -LG or PM? Were police officers given written directions by LG/PM? If yes, make written directions public. If no, the police officers who followed illegal verbal directions must face severe punishment.”

This was after Indian Express reported quoting sources that Special CP R P Upadhyay and Special CP (law and order of northern range) Sandeep Goel were asked by the police commissioner to meet DCPs who report to them and discuss cases registered against MLAs and MPs in the capital.

“Upadhyay called a meeting with seven DCPs at his office at the Delhi Police headquarters at 11 am on Friday, and the issue of cases against AAP MLAs falling apart in court was discussed,” the paper quoted a source in its report.

The special meeting by the Delhi Police was called in the wake of AAP legislators being discharged or acquitted in 19 out of 22 cases filed against them. Delhi’s ruling AAP have always alleged that the Delhi Police were harassing its MLAs at the behest of the Centre after the BJP lost the 2015 assembly elections.
