Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Aali Khan too joined the Bollywood stars who came out in the open in their support to the Supreme Court’s historic verdict decriminalising the Section 377 that banned homosexuality.
Taking to her Instagram page, Sara said that she was ‘proud of India’ while adding that ‘Keep Calm and support LGBT.” The photo posted by her on her Insta story was replete with rainbow colour, often associated with the LGBT community.
Sara’s reaction came after Ali Bhatt too expressed her satisfaction on the top court’s verdict with a caption, “finally!!!!!”
Karan Johar had earlier said that with Thursday’s verdict India had got its ‘oxygen back.’ His tweet had read, “Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing #Section377 is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back!.”
Actress Kriti Sanon wrote, “Finally!! This day needs to be marked on the calendar. Porud Indian today. #RIPSection377.”
Actor Mouni Roy, whose movie Gold had done remarkably well, wrote, “Love wins. Love is Love.”
Sonakshi Sinha wrote, “Love rulesss!! #ByeBye377.”
Earlier on Thursday, the five-judge constitution bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Indu Malhotra had delivered a historic judgement in favour of repealing of the British-era Section 377 banning gay sex.
The top court delivering separate but concurring judgments, said it is the constitutional and not social morality which will prevail. The verdict sparked celebrations amongst the LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual, intersex and queer/questioning) community across India.
Chief Justice Dipak Misra, also speaking for Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, said attitude and mentality has to change to accept the others’ identity and accept what they are and not what they should be.
