BJP President Amit Shah on Sunday announced the three key committees responsible for managing key areas of campaigning related to this year’s Lok Sabha polls for the party. However, the notable exclusion from the committee tasked with preparing the manifesto is Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Three committees are for manifesto, publicity and establishing contact with social and non governmental organisations. The committee on manifesto will be headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Notable members of the manifesto committee for the BJP are Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravi Shankar Prasasd, Piyush Goyal, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, KJ Alphons and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Jaitley has also been included in the committee on publicity. He will be heading this committee, perhaps because of his links with media organisations. He is joined here by I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma and former Delhi BJP President Satish Upaddhyay among others.
Key BJP functionaries included in the committee to establish contact with NGOs and social organisations are Nitin Gadkari, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Sadanand Gowda and Kalraj Mishra among others.
Gadkari’s exclusion from the manifesto committee assumes significance in light of his recent comments critical of the party leadership on the recent defeat in three states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
A veteran BJP leader on Saturday had demanded Nitin Gadkari’s appointment as the deputy Prime Minister ahead of the Lok Sabha polls to avoid a rout in the elections. Sanghpriya Gautam, who served as a cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, had written to his party, demanding the elevation of Nitin Gadkari as the Deputy Prime Minister.
Shah has constituted 17 different committees to work for the 2019 elections.
