Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday posted a video to claim his government’s achievement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ scheme. But, moments after he posted the video, he began to face widespread condemnation.
Goyal took to Twitter to post the video of the Vande Bharat express, which has been projected as India’s first ‘semi high speed’ train. While posting the video, Goyal wrote, “It’s a bird… It’s a plane…Watch India’s first semi-high speed train built under ‘Make in India’ initiative, Vande Bharat Express zooming past at lightening speed.”

Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav too shared Goyal’s tweet congratulating the Indian government for manufacturing a high speed train.

With parliamentary polls not far away, BJP supporters wasted no time crediting the Modi government for its performance.
Once upon a time India hd seen a golden era. Again we can say India is touching the sky with new heights in the leathership PM Modi.

The video posted by Goyal indeed showed the train running at an incredibly fast speed except that its speed had been doctored. This is how social media users reacted.
Massive respect for Piyush Goyal. He just made the Video 2X times faster and called it Semi-High Speed Train when he could have made it 6X times faster and called it Super High Speed Train https://t.co/z0KDsYTBJ1

User Roshan Rai posted the original video alongside the doctored video that Goyal had posted.
Union Minister @PiyushGoyal speeds up a video of a train and posts a doctored version. This is truly unbecoming of a minister. Indians aren’t fool Mr Goyal , Shame on you for trying to mislead people. pic.twitter.com/YsqjmleWpK

Janta Ka Reporter looked for several original videos of the Vande Bharat Express on YouTube and we found plenty of them on the video sharing platform. The original video that Goyal shared it by increasing its speed was posted by one Abhishek Jaiswal. He responded to Goyal’s tweet, posting the link to his original video and took a potshot at the person handling the Twitter account of the Railway Minister.
This is my video and this is forwarded by 2x speed to the original vdo. https://t.co/mqY95AwlOR
whoever handling your account is really a dump.

The Vande Bharat Express was originally known as Train 18 and has been manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai. It became India’s fastest train by hitting speeds of over 180 kmph during a trial run on a section of the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route.
The train will formally be inaugurated on 15 February by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This is not the first time Goyal has been caught using doctored images or visuals to claim success of his government’s scheme or programme. In August 2017, Janta Ka Reporter had found him using a photo of a Russian street to claim success of the Street Lighting National Programme under the Narendra Modi government. His ministry had later apologised after Janta Ka Reporter’s story went viral.
