Extremely poor showing in Lok Sabha polls by the Aam Aadmi Party led to an ugly internal war within the party. AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk, Alka Lamba, took to Twitter to announce that she was removed from the WhatsApp group of MLAs that also included Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
She shared the screenshots of the messages on WhatsApp that led to her removal from the WhasApp group. Screenshots shared by her showed a message from Kejriwal asking his MLAs to wrok even harder in future in the wake of a crushing defeat in Delhi in this month’s Lok Sabha polls. Several MLAs responded confirming that that they had already started their engagements with their constituents once again.
This was followed by a notification AAP’s North East Delhi candidate Dilip Pandey stating that Lamba had been removed from the WhatsApp group of AAP MLAs. She wrote, “Why’s the frustration being vented out on me? I said this from the day one ( to work harder in constituencies). You (Kejriwal) are saying this today. Sometimes you add me in the WhatsApp Group, sometimes you remove me. It would have been better if you raised yourself above this and called a meeting to discuss the shortcomings and how to work on it in future?”

Lamba also wrote that the journey she had started with the AAP in 2013 will end in 2020, when Delhi goes for assembly polls. She said, “My best greetings will always be there for the revolutionary workers of the party who are working on the ground. I hope you will continue to remain a strong alternative in Delhi. My association of six years with you will be memorable. I learnt a lot from you. Grateful.”
Lamba also wrote that there were anger among Delhiites about poor governance and MLAs made desperate attempts to inform Kejriwal about them before 12 May polls. But Kejriwal, she said, had no time to pay heed to those issues. She wrote, “MLAs were not able to concentrate on elections even if they wished because they faced protests from their constituents over the water crisis in their area. The water ministry is with the CM, who doesn’t have time. MLAs termed this one of the reasons for our defeat.” She concluded her tweet by implying that Kejriwal should either remain the chief minister or relinquish the post of AAP convenor.
She asked Kejriwal to focus on Delhi’s governance and let Sanjay Singh run the party.

She also wrote that Kejriwal was not listening to his MLAs’ feedback and he needed to pay heed to his legislators’ inputs if the AAP was to win Delhi again in 2015. Lamba said that MLAs were feeling suffocated since they could not speak in public about their issues and Kejriwal did not listen him to them in the party.
Lamba did not campaign for her party in the just-concluded Lok Sabha polls alleging neglect by AAP leadership. She had alleged that Kejriwal held roadshows in her constituencies without informing her. The AAP suffered huge defeats in the parliamentary polls by finishing poor third. The Congress appeared to have regained its lost ground in the national capital. While the BJP’s vote share was over 56%, the Congress’s vote share was in excess of 22%. The AAP was placed third with 18% vote share.
