New Delhi: Amidst the uproar against CAA- NRC-NPR, PM Modi’s visit to West Bengal state was not welcomed by many activists, students, political parties who staged protests against him.
According to reports, a group of SFI activists carried posters with the message ‘Go Back Modi’ at the Airport before the PM arrived in Kolkata today, Indiatoday reports.
Prior to PM Modi’s arrival, some organizations had planned to stage protests against PM Modi at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and along the approach roads.
The protest at the Kolkata Airport was attended by hundreds, while protests against the PM’s visit were also staged in other parts of West Bengal.
Opposition party Youth Congress activists assembled outside Kolkata airport and raised slogans against PM Modi.
The activists demanded PM should not be allowed to land in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, SFI activists assembled near Jadavpur University, Golpark, College Street, Hatibagan and Esplanade with placards which read ‘Students Against Fascism.’
“We protest the visit of the Prime Minister who is behind the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and the attack by saffron forces in Jawaharlal Nehru University campus,” SFI leader Debraj Debnath said.
“We are against the visit of PM Modi, Amit Shah and other BJP leaders who are dividing people to Bengal”
PM Modi unwelcomed in West Bengal
Before heading for Kolkata, PM Modi in a tweet said, “I am happy and excited that I will spend today and tomorrow in West Bengal. I will be fortunate to visit my Ramakrishna Mission at the holy time of Swami Vivekananda Jan Jayanti. Belur monastery has always been a prominent place.”
