BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Tuesday sparked yet another controversy by calling All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi as ‘Neo Jinnah’ prompting the latter to Patra a ‘kid, who doesn’t deserve attention in return.’

Referring to Owaisi’s recent comment where he had urged Muslims to unite, Patra said, “In today’s political scenario, I have no hesitation in saying that Mr Owaisi is the neo Jinnah. This tactic of instigating Muslims to break away from mainstream is a dangerous one & he is a repeat offender.”

“This tactic of instigating Muslims to break away from mainstream is a dangerous one and he is a repeat offender,” the BJP spokesperson said while addressing a press conference, earlier in the day.

Owaisi did not hold back in returning the favour back and said, “Arre Sambit baccha hai, bacchon ke baare mein nahin bolte. Bacchon ke baap se muqabla hai hamara. Jab bade baat karte hain to bacchon ko tayein-tayein nahin karna chahiye (Sambit is a kid, don’t speak about kids. I am competing with their fathers. When adults are speaking, kids should not interfere).”

While addressing a public event in Maharashtra’s Beed on 25 June, Owaisi had said that for the sake of secularism, Muslims should unite and vote for their own candidates.

The AIMIM chief said, “Don’t sit here shedding tears for Qasim (Hapur lynching victim), I don’t ask that of you. Instead, get up and unite. I want to awaken your conscience. Those of you, who talk about secularism are the biggest robbers. For 70 years, Muslims have been used and abused in the name of secularism to keep secularism alive, you need to fight for your rights. For that to happen, you should be able to become a political force to reckon with.”

Speaking on the 43rd anniversary of imposition of National Emergency, the AIMIM chief had compared Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government in 1975 with assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, anti-Sikh riots of 1984 demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 and Gujarat riots of 2002.

Owaisi said, “One should never forget emergency, Mahatma Gandhi assassination, demolition of Babri Masjid, genocide of Sikhs in 1984 and what happened in 2002 in Gujarat. These were earth-shaking events that happened in independent India.”
