The recent monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in certain parts of India even as people in other parts have desperately waited for the much-needed shower.

While media’s attention has been towards Mumbai and the menace of water-logging in India’s financial capital, not much coverage was given to problem faced by citizens in other parts of the country.

On Wednesday, actor Gul Panag, took to Twitter to highlight the woes of water-logging in Punjab’s Patiala, near Zirakpur flyoever. Posting a photo of dedicated traffic police officers, discharging their duty in an ankle-deep water, Panag tagged Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amaridner Singh and sought to highlight the level of commitment displayed by the cop in question. She wrote, “Dear @capt_amarinder Sir, hard working traffic policemen like this gentleman, would be immensely helped by good rain gear and a pat on the back.
This is under the Zirakpur flyover, Patiala Road.”

The Punjab chief minister wasted no time and responded to Panag’s tweet. Thanking Panag for ‘highlighting’ the policemen’s dedication, Singh also informed that his government had decided to honour the duo, Head Constables Gurdhian Singh and Gurdev Singh, for their commitment to job. Singh wrote, “Thank you @GulPanag for highlighting dedication to duty shown by HC Gurdhian Singh No 381 & HC Gurdev Singh 396 of SAS Nagar. They will be honoured tomorrow by ADGP Traffic with a Commendation Certificate & cash reward. Appreciate positive feedback from citizens!”

Although, social media users were quick to thank both Panag and Singh for highlighting and rewarding the policemen, they also asked the government to provide better equipment to cops on duty. Journalist Salim Rizvi wrote, “Also get the policemen proper gear.” Journalist Man Aman Singh Chhina wrote, “Since Gul Panag has highlighted this, she should be invited to do the honours.”

Patiala is also the home constituency of Punjab Chief Minister Singh.
