Deonand (Uttar Pradesh):  A mother in this historic town has been voluntarily preparing two times meals for 400 people every day since the lockdown on 22nd March.

The food distribution under the banner “Koi Bhooka na soay” (Let no one go to bed hungry) is being funded  by Deoband Abna-e-Madaris Welfare Educational Trust (DAMWET) and Deoband Islamic Academy (DIA) and is targeted at stranded students, daily wagers and other needy people in the town.

The lady, Syeda Nargis Parveen, who has been singlehandedly providing the self-less service of cooking happens to be the mother of DAMWET’s Chairman Mahdi Hasan Aini, a young religious scholar and social activist.

Explaining how the campaign was started Mahdi Hasan Aini said: “When I mentioned the situation it to my mother, without even thinking for a minute she immediately volunteered to prepare food for 40-50 students. This has number has now reached 400. Initially, we were targeting only students but now we are providing food to daily wagers and other needy people as well.”

Mahdi Hasan said that Nagar Palika Deoband and District Administration were cooperating in the distribution of food packets.

Mahdi Hasan Also said: “While we are distributing food to the needy, during the lockdown Dr Abdul Hameed of Deoband Polyclinic has been providing free consultation and medicines to those who need medical help.”
